Flourish & Print: Gelli printing

Flourish & Print: Gelli Printing is a fun workshop to learn some easy textile art skills. May is such a joyous time in the botanical calendar.  Trees are in blossom, gardens are bursting into bloom, bees and butterflies fill the air. Capture and celebrate the beauty of nature without being able to draw by making gelli prints from early summer foliage and flowers. You can frame your prints, use them as book covers, or as a base for collage in a sketchbook or artists book.

Flourish & Print: Gelli-printing Course description

A playful introduction to botanical gel plate printing for textiles, mixed media, and creative exploration

May is a glorious month in the botanical calendar — blossom on the trees, gardens bursting into colour, and early summer foliage at its freshest. This workshop celebrates that abundance. You’ll learn how to capture the delicate textures of leaves and flowers using gel plates to create beautiful monoprints on paper and fabric. No drawing skills needed — nature does the hard work for you.

Your prints can be framed, used as book covers, added to sketchbooks, or developed into collage and textile art. It’s a joyful, accessible process that opens up endless creative possibilities.

🌼 What the workshop covers

  • How to make simple mark‑making tools and print blocks from everyday items
  • How to ink, layer, and pull prints from a gel plate
  • What papers and fabrics work best
  • Alternative printing surfaces you can use at home
  • How to care for your gel plate
  • How to turn your prints into a folded artist’s book, with optional machine or hand embroidery

🎨 Why you’ll love it

Gel printing is used by textile artists, quilters, cardmakers, art journallers, and mixed‑media makers. It’s inexpensive, easy to do at home, and wonderfully addictive. Gel plates pick up every tiny vein and texture, giving you unique, one‑of‑a‑kind prints that you can use across all your creative projects.

You’ll leave with a beautiful collection of printed papers (and optional fabrics) plus ideas for how to develop them further in your own time.
