Embark on a creative journey in this exciting 1-day workshop, where you’ll dive into the world of Free-Motion Quilting and Dissolvable Fabrics. Perfect for those with some experience in free-motion embroidery, this class will introduce you to new techniques and challenge you to create a unique textile art piece. Whether you’re looking to refine your quilting skills or try something completely new, this workshop offers the perfect balance of creativity and technical expertise.
What You’ll Learn:

Free-Motion Quilting: The day will begin with an introduction to free-motion quilting. You’ll work on a quilted base that will serve as the foundation for your project. Using free-motion stitching, you’ll create texture and depth, laying the groundwork for your chosen design. From flowing shapes to intricate patterns, this part of the workshop will focus on adding dimension to your piece.

Dissolvable Fabrics: In the afternoon, we’ll introduce dissolvable fabrics to bring your creation to life. Using water-soluble stabilizer, you’ll stitch 3D elements like flowers, leaves, ivy, or shells to complement the quilted base. Once completed, the stabilizer will be dissolved, leaving behind delicate, textured details that add depth and interest to your artwork.

Nature-Inspired Designs: Combine free-motion quilting and dissolvable fabrics to create a nature-inspired art piece. Options are: a tree trunk with 3D ivy leaves and stems, or a beach scene with sand ripples and pebbles.

Your tutor Jen Skedd has a background in creative textiles, having completed a Stitch Textiles qualification and is a member of the Quilters’ Guild, and Contemporary Textiles Scotland group of Textile Artists.
Pro Tips & Tricks: Our expert instructor will guide you through the process, offering tips on free-motion quilting and stitching with dissolvable fabrics. You’ll learn how to manipulate tension, experiment with quilting patterns, and create stunning 3D textures.
Materials: All materials, including fabric, threads, stabilizers, and quilting supplies, will be provided. If you have any special fabrics or threads you’d like to incorporate into your design, feel free to bring them along.
