Edinburgh Palette: Rebrand

Over the past few months, Edinburgh Palette has begun to grow outwith Edinburgh, taking on properties in other Scottish cities. Due to this expansion, we feel it’s best to have our name grow with us. Starting this morning, we have started our rebrand from Edinburgh Palette to Scotland’s ART (Scot ART). With ART standing for Artistic Regeneration and Transformation.

This change was carefully considered by the same trusted team behind Edinburgh Palette, and we look to ensure the quality of support and standard of service will not be impacted by this. We truly believe this change is a natural progression that best represents our growth as a charity.

For more information on the reasoning behind this rebrand and what changes will be made, please visit the article on the home page of our website.

Thank you for all your continued patience and support.

Edinburgh Palette set to transform historic Aberdeen church

Yesterday, Edinburgh Palette Chief Operating Officer, Iain Sneddon met with Church of Scotland, Reverend Ian Murray to receive the keys to the historic Kirk of St Nicholas in Aberdeen. The key exchange took place in the late morning, surrounded by the church’s stakeholders.  The church, an integral building in Aberdeen’s centre, which since ending the congregation on the last day in December 2020, has been closed to the public with its future unknown.

OISC Update

In light of the current unrest across the UK caused by far-right activists, the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner have amended their website due to “unverified information circulating regarding the potential targeting of immigration lawyers and migrant support organisations”.

They currently have temporary removed the ‘Adviser Finder’ and ‘Adviser Register’ from their website. These features were removed on Monday the 5th, so from then, if you require assistance, they urge you to contact them through their general email address info@oisc.gov.uk to ensure you are seen.

Furthermore, The OISC encourage everyone to report any threats to the police, including any suspicious activity using 101 or the online report system. Please dial 999 in an emergency. “We would advise that you consider how best to reduce any risk to your staff and business. Please also consider if there is any way to further minimise your online presence, potentially by temporarily removing specific contact/personal details.”

“Please note, if as a result of protecting yourself and your staff you cannot undertake your usual duties during this time you will not be penalised. As a regulator, we understand that this is an exceptional circumstance, and your safety must be prioritised.”

Please email info@oisc.gov.uk for further information and keep each other safe.

LEAD Interview

Following their win at the Scottish charity awards, CEO of LEAD, Emma Whitelock has provided more insight into who they are and what they do.

  • Could you tell me a wee bit more about what LEAD does?

Lead Scotland is a charity supporting disabled people and carers by providing personalised learning, befriending, advice and information services.  We have projects across Scotland and a national helpline and information service.  Our local services are community and home based, one to one or in small groups so that people have the right support to learn and participate. We support people with ambitions of personal development, learning, volunteering and work. At a national level, we provide information and advice on the full range of post-school learning and training opportunities, as well as influencing and informing policy.

  • What was the award for?

Digital Difference Category at the Scottish Charity Awards – here is more detail: LEAD Scotland – Linking Education and Disability » Celebrating a Milestone: Lead Scotland Wins the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards Digital Difference Award | LEAD Scotland – Linking Education and Disability

  • What has been your favourite memory as CEO of LEAD?

I have lots of great memories from my time as CEO of Lead Scotland. I love seeing the impact of our work and working with a brilliant, passionate, talented team, that really keeps me going.

  • What was the best part of the event in Glasgow?

Michael went to the event – I wasn’t in attendance, but my best bit watching it being live streamed was being so proud to see the project being explained within our category and then jumping up and down in the living room when we won! My dog was very confused.

  • What are your plans for the future of LEAD?

We are in the middle of our current strategy, and we are driving forward four main goals. The organisation is 45 years old this year and we have so much more work to do! One thing we are particularly proud of is involving more disabled people in our staff and sessional work team than ever before and our Cyber project is a great example of this. We have engaged three disabled sessional tutors who have extended the reach of our work into communities.

  • Is there any other information you want included?

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Scottish Government’s Cyber resilience team for supporting us and believing in us and a huge thank you to everyone who helped us create and share our courses and resources.

Creative Retreats in the Scottish Borders

Early bird Discount for September retreat until end May 2024 and first retreat special price for the May retreat – 450 shared accommodation/600 single room residential.

During the last three years, I have been spending time in the Borders, walking, writing, drawing, taking photographs, foraging, reflecting, practising in the woods. It is another special place in Scotland. It gave me the chance to reconnect deeply with my creative soul and play, explore, be curious, inspired. I would like to share with you ways of reconnect/ connect with your creative soul, or simply nourish it and go back refreshed. We will explore; walk, observe; take photos; write; draw; make home remedies. As much or as little of it all. Have interesting conversations. We may notice what grows and what one may be drawn to make from it, or how one is inspired to connect to what is in the surroundings, playing with responding spontaneously to what calls us to tune into our inspiration, intuition, and imagination from whichever direction it may come. You may join in all the suggested activities, suggest others, or simply use the time and space to explore, rest, have interesting conversations or something else. What nourishes us? How do we feel inspired? There are lovely walks around the area, or if you wish you can sit by the fire in the beautiful home. I I will be happy to suggest/join in walks in the local area.
Vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. We cook together, recipes and ingredients are provided.
The retreat is in a beautiful eco house up a farm track, which offers a modern and spacious venue for this. Accommodation is in comfortable rooms, one has a double bed, two have beds that can be set up as a Twin room or as a double bed. There is max 5 spaces in the house, and 4 more people can join, if renting your own accommodation elsewhere.
There will be breathwork and meditation sessions early morning and evening, and if the weather is on our side, yoga outside on the beautiful lawn may be possible.
Arrival is on Monday from 4 pm and departure Friday morning by 10 am.
The minimum number to go ahead is 3, in case three of you wish a single room.
Single room can be booked here. Please contact me on annamaria@bodysymphonies.co.uk for shared room 🙂
