Free Easter Holiday Activities – Base Camp for Kids

FREE EASTER HOLIDAYS ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS

Edinburgh Strength Collective, alongside Strong4All, is launching Base Camp, a free strength and fitness course for young people, intending on running a pilot during the Easter Holidays 2026.

The course introduces the basics of strength training in a safe, supportive environment.  It will be led by a qualified children’s coach, and supported by experienced strength coaches. We hope to provide two sessions per week over two weeks, for a total of up to four sessions, each lasting around 1.5–2 hours.

The main goals of Base Camp are to:

  • Teach young people how to move well and train safely
  • Introduce proper lifting techniques in an age-appropriate way
  • Build confidence when exercising, training, or using a gym space
  • Encourage a healthier outlook on exercise and body image, focusing on function rather than appearance
  • Develop skills beyond sport and school, including teamwork, communication, leadership and problem-solving

The course is free to attend and suitable for beginners. No previous gym or strength training experience is needed.

If you’re interested, please complete the registration of interest form below. We’ll use responses to shape the final programme and welcome your feedback.

Photography student at SMH

Dear SMH tenants,

We will be hosting a photography student at SMH over the next few months- please see message from her below 🙂

Hi guys, my name is Tasha. I come from a village in Aberdeenshire and moved here for university. Speaking of which, I am currently a 3rd year photography student at Edinburgh Napier, and I’ll be around for the next couple of months on placement at St Margarets House.

I really love portraiture photography and using it to share stories, so I’d love to talk to any of you about your work and take portraits of you in your environment if that’s something you would be interested in. I firmly believe that any story has the ability to positively influence someone’s life, and that makes every story worthy of being told.

Photography is something that pulled me out of a very dark place in my life and made a huge impact on me as a person, and I hope someday I can be a part of that same process for someone else who needs it as badly as I did.

Beyond photography, I can be a bit of a nerd when it comes to DC comic books, fantasy novels or really any kind of fantastical media. I have a vast collection of precious stones; I spend a lot of my free time climbing, and I even work in a kitchen. So, I really cover most bases when it comes to interests and conversation starters. All of these things make me as a person and influence my work as a photographer, and I’d love to learn about what influences your work as artists.

Photography work placements in SMH

Starting from tomorrow, We will have two third year Napier photography students coming into the building for 3-4 months to take photos of events and you and your studios! Here are their introductions so you can get to know them both.

Hi I’m Rachel, a third year photography student, here on placement. I’ll be around the building helping out and taking photos of the events taking place. I’m very keen to learn about art curation and would love to meet and work with people in the building 🙂

My photography instagram is @rchldwknss and my art one is @soulchokes

Thank you,

Rachel

Hi I’m Fraser and I’m a 3rd year photography student who’s here on placement. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be popping around all the studios and businesses in the building to complete a documentary project about St Margaret’s House.

Practically, this means that I’ll be popping in for about 10-20 minutes to get to know you and the amazing work that you do. Whilst doing this, I’ll get some shots of your work, your studio space and take a few portraits. Any images I capture will also be available for you to use in whatever way you wish.

I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and getting the opportunity to see all the work you do 🙂

If you want to talk about anything, feel free to send me an email at Flynn.fraser@icloud.com.
